Google Favors Mobile-Friendly Websites

In February 2015, Google announced that mobile-friendly websites will have a significant impact in their mobile search results to help users discover more mobile-friendly content.

Knowing that mobile is taking over the desktop world, we should consider Google’s announcement very seriously. According to eMarketer Webinar: Key Digital Trends—15 Things to Know for 2015, mobile touches content, commerce, advertising, industry, and mobile searches reaches the tipping point in 2015, surpassing traditional desktop/laptop search activity.

What should be done to keep up with Google’s search innovations to optimize the digital world? The first thing to be done is to test your website on the Google Mobile-Friendly Test Tool, which I’ve already mentioned on my post about Modern SEO 2015. If the result of your test reads "Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly.", you know that you’re already ready for the mobile world. You can go further and search for your website on your mobile phone. If the search results for your site come with a gray label reading "Mobile-friendly", you confirm that Google has already verified your mobile site. If your site doesn’t pass the test, you should contact your web developer to update your site. Your web developer will likely advise you that the best alternative will be to recode the styles of your site using the Responsive Web Design approach (RWD). You may have heard about the Responsive Web Design approach. It just means your site will be easily viewed in major devices from mobile to desktop, from small to wider screens.

If you don’t have a web developer or would like to meet someone new, please contact me at maria@mclinteractive.com. I can help you figure this thing out successfully. I’ll provide you a generous discount if you want just to rebuild your site and keep your current design.

Please do not worry if your site is not mobile-friendly. You’re not alone. Per USA Today, ‘Mobilegeddon’ could be bad news for 40% of top websites. You just need to take action so your website traffic doesn’t drop drastically due to lower rankings in the search results.
